Common Questions About the GBC Foton 30 Laminator

Common Questions About the GBC Foton 30
The GBC Foton 30 revolutionizes the way we laminate. It automatically feeds and trims for you, making lamination as easy as possible. This machine will completely change the way you view lamination, which means you likely have a lot of questions! Here are a few of the common questions that we see:

What mil thickness can this machine use?
The GBC Foton 30 can run 3 mil or 5 mil lamination cartridges. The machine comes with a 3 mil starter cartridge, which has 50' of film.

What size documents can I run through the GBC Foton 30?
This machine can handle a wide range of documents, but runs most efficiently with 8 1/2" x 11" sized papers. The minimum paper size is 5" x 6", which is about the size of a flashcard. The maximum document size on auto-mode is 11" x 17". Non-standard sizes can be laminated using the two manual modes.

Will the GBC Foton 30 trim the edges of smaller documents, such as an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" size sheet?
The GBC Foton 30 can laminate smaller documents, but it will only automatically cut the length side, not the width. You can trim the excess flush manually without worrying about your film peeling.

When would I need to use Manual Mode?
There are two different types of Manual Mode: Manual Feed / Auto Cut and Manual Feed / Manual Cut.

Manual Feed / Auto Cut is best for thicker papers, such as cardstock, that are standard size with a straight leading and trailing edge. Manual feed will help minimize potential misfeeding for these documents.

If you are laminating non-standard size documents, such as odd shapes and oversized sheets, Manual Feed / Manual Cut will provide the best results. You will need to feed and trim these document manually.

Do you offer gloss, matte or soft touch lamination for this machine?
At this time, the GBC Foton 30 film cartridges all have a gloss finish.

How do I load film into the GBC Foton 30?
The GBC Foton 30 uses auto-threading film cartridges. Simply open the laminator and slide the cartridge into place. The cartridge can only load one way, which eliminates film loading errors. The machine will then thread the film automatically and detect thickness to set speed and temperature.

Will the GBC Foton 30 run all day?
Yes! Whether you’re laminating a few documents or need continuous use throughout the day, the GBC Foton 30 will keep up with all of your projects. It does not require cool down time between runs.
